We’ve all made mistakes, and some are more disastrous than others. But we can be thankful that we don’t live our lives in the spotlight. Our mistakes fade and we can move on, unlike celebrities who, despite their best efforts to move on, can have their worst moments haunt them forever. That’s the downside of being in the public eye all the time.
These A-list celebrities have obviously not had their regrets hinder their success, so why do we care? Their regrets are little reminders that these ladies are just regular people. They’ve regretted life choices, and have had to deal with them in their own way. We’ve compiled a list of some very surprising regrets from 12 of our favorite actresses!
12. Michelle Pfeiffer’s Movie Sequel Fail
The first “Grease” movie was a hit, and still to this day a favorite of ours. So we were a bit surprised to learn that there was a “Grease 2” and that Michelle Pfeiffer was in it! Although we’re not too surprised that the film was a flop. Michelle Pfeiffer said, “I hated that film with a vengeance and could not believe how bad it was… At the time I was young and didn’t know any better…” It’s okay, Michelle. Everyone has regrets! Don’t worry, we’ll avoid watching it. Maybe everyone else will forget that it ever happened too…
11. Sienna Miller’s True Motive In Taking A Role
We would never have known that Sienna Miller regretted doing “G.I. Joe,” because it was a pretty successful film. But her reasons for taking the role in the first place come as a bit of a surprise. She said that “G.I. Joe (was) a great paycheck.” And went on to say that, “If, financially, I’m okay – which luckily I am – there’s no point in doing stuff that’s not right for me. It’s too much time away from home.” Moving forward, she is focusing on roles that show off her acting abilities. Good for you Sienna!
10. Jennifer Lawrence Failing A Raccoon
J.Law is very popular right now, and comes across as funny and down to earth. So this regret makes her so much more endearing to us! She was asked what her biggest regret was during “The Late Show’s” segment “Big questions with even Bigger Stars.” She, of course, responded with some brutal honesty. Lawrence said, “Not helping that raccoon get his head out of the mayonnaise jar.” Not sure what that means, but she’s the one who has to live with that regret.
9. Christina Applegate Turning Down A Huge Role
Did you know that Christina Applegate turned down a role in “Legally Blonde?” To be fair, would you think after reading the script that it would be a successful movie? Still, as she was transitioning from TV to film at the time, she said later that she regretted the choice. “The script came my way, and it was after I had just finished Married […With Children]. I got scared of repeating myself. What a stupid move.” That role could have launched her into superstardom, but overall she has done pretty good for herself!
8. Jessica Alba’s Acting Being Too Good
It’s not hard to understand why Jessica Alba regrets doing the “Fantastic 4″ movies. They weren’t the best, and the acting in parts was just painful to watch. But as it turns out, she didn’t have much say in her acting. “I wanted to stop acting,” she recalled. “The director was like, ‘[your crying] looks too real. It looks too painful. Can you be prettier when you cry? Cry pretty, Jessica.’ He was like, ‘Don’t do that thing with your face. Just make it flat. We can CGI the tears in.’ ” All we can say to that is WOW!
7. Betty White Wishing For Lost Time
This has to be the best regret on our list! Betty White met Allen Ludden in 1961, and they started dating not long after that. It took Ludden three proposals to get Betty to say “yes” to him! They were happily married until Ludden passed away from stomach cancer in 1981. So what was Betty White’s regret throughout all of that? She said, “I spent a whole year, wasted a whole year that Allen and I could have had together, saying, ‘No, I wouldn’t marry him. No, I won’t. No, I won’t leave California. No, I won’t move to New York.'”
6. Nicole Kidman’s Lack Of Confidence
Nicole Kidman seems to ooze confidence, but she also has a few regrets. At an awards ceremony, Nicole opened up about the start of her career. “I was afraid of my own power,” she said, “afraid that it would threaten people, intimidate people. And it’s a great sadness wishing to be less than you actually are. And it’s hard to take on the world when you’re constantly in a battle with yourself. I worked through it … I’m working through it.” Hard to imagine that it’s something she still feels the need to work on! Keep it up Nicole, you’re an inspiration to us all!
5. Helen Mirren Taking It All Off
Early on in her career, British actress Helen Mirren appeared to have no issues stripping down to her birthday suit. Since she showed a lot of skin in film and photo shoots, you would think that she was totally comfortable with it. Not so. “I might seem uninhibited but believe me, I’m not. I’ve always had a problem doing nudity… In fact, I hated it. It has never been a comfortable thing. I’ve never enjoyed it.”
4. Courteney Cox’s Plastic Surgery Mistake
If you’ve been wondering why Courteney Cox has been looking a little different these days, it’s because of one of her biggest regrets. When she was asked why she chose to try plastic surgery she said, “I was trying to keep up with getting older and trying to chase that [youth].” She continued, “I have done things that I regret… luckily they’re things that dissolve and go away, so that’s good, because that’s not always been my best look.” When you find the fountain of youth Courteney, please let us know!
3. Emily Blunt Being Blunt
Well, this regret is just plain awkward, and unfortunately ended up with some fans getting quite angry at her. Emily Blunt decided to make a political joke after watching the GOP debate. She said, “I became an American citizen recently, and that night, we watched the Republican debate and I thought, ‘This was a terrible mistake. What have I done?'” This caused a lot of her American fans to ask her to move back to Britain and denounce her newly acquired citizenship. We’re going to guess that Blunt regrets being blunt. Har har.
2. Jessica Biel’s Underage Nude Photoshoot
Jessica Biel is another actress who regrets getting nude in front of the camera. She shed her layers for Gear Magazine years ago, and while the photos were done tastefully, there was a bit of a problem. She was only 17! She had this to say about it: “that photoshoot was just a really bad decision on my part and I got myself involved with people who weren’t thinking about me and were instead thinking about what kind of a story they could get out of it.” We hope you fired your manager for that booking!
1. Kate Winslet Baring It All
We’re really starting to see a theme with getting naked and later regretting it. Getting naked for a scene in “Titanic” was Kate Winslet biggest regret ever. She said, “I wish I hadn’t shown so much flesh but I was young and I knew I had things to prove.” Since “Titanic” went on to become one of the most successful films ever, we’re guessing it’s a pretty big regret!
We don’t know about you, but we are so thankful that our regrets aren’t available on DVD or in magazines! How awful would that be? Anyone could dig it up and remind you about them at any time! Because you know, it’s not like you didn’t already regret doing it… Luckily for these women, they are super successful even with the mistakes made early in their careers. They have really shown that they don’t let anything hold them back. So remember to keep your clothes on, be careful of sequels, and don’t let anyone tell you to stop being amazing! Also, that raccoon thing …
