They met when she was just 13 years old at the wedding of his cousin, Princess Marina of Greece. She saved up ration cards to buy the material needed. The dress was made of ivory duchess satin and decorated with 10,000 imported white pearls, silver thread, and tulle embroidery with a 15-foot patterned full court train attached at the shoulders. It also had silk tulle veil held in place by a tiara lent to the princess by her mother.

It was designed by MGM costume designer Helen Rose and transformed the Hitchcock blonde into real-life European royalty.  The gown was made from 25 yards of silk taffeta, pearls and antique rose-point lace by three dozen seamstresses, who worked on it for six weeks. Her dress was said to have inspired the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding gown.

I couldn’t pick up a pencil. It’s been my creative rehab”. The dress was exhibited in the Victoria & Albert Museum in 2014 as part of its exhibition of wedding dresses.

Designer Riccardo Tisci created a custom-made Givenchy gown with sheer, lace sleeves and cutouts at the shoulders to add enough flair to a delicate, ethereal look. The dress was made of white silk tulle, Chantilly lace, embroidered pearls, and satin. It also had a sheer lace veil that draped from her side bun to her legs.
